"The first half of this book struck me as centering around the unspoken, subconscious experience of femininity as our society expects it, and accepts it — as one of denying the "haunted holes" and "writhing undersides" in favor of the desirable, glittery aspects. The 2nd part of the book began to sound like a near death experience, then I read in the author's bio that she had suffered an arterial tear and a stroke at a very young age, and many of the poems herein are an autobiographical account of that scary episode and the long road to recovery."
