they could cut off our fingers and toes
more easily. Maybe even cut out
our tongues. Snap a neck, invade
our brains. Diminish our bodies

with ongoing hateful clichés, ridicule,
ridiculous standards."

Currently this is the first poem in a sequence of interconnected poems that Cook been working on for quite a while now, so I guess we shall see what happens with that. Maybe when it's finally semi-done, she may try to turn it into a chapbook length manuscript of sorts.
