Blood Pudding Press is Now Accepting Poetry Chapbook Submissions for 2015!

BLOOD PUDDING PRESS IS NOW ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS FOR ITS 2015 POETRY CHAPBOOK CONTEST !   (from November 20, 2014 - December 20, 2014)

Blood Pudding Press is seeking two new poetry chapbooks to publish in 2015.

Before submitting your poetry innards for consideration, please read the details below to garner an idea of our desires.

Blood Pudding Press is an itty bitty indie press handled by one woman (poet/publisher/artist Juliet Cook) and does not particularly care whether or not other poets are academic, non-academic, indie writers or part of any specific writing scene, as long as they are active in their own way – and passionately entwined in artistic creation, writing, and reading (more than just their own poetry).

Blood Pudding Press cares about poetic individuals (and collaborators) with their own unique writing stylistics and experimentation. The press is open to different styles, but some of its primary interests involve mind and body, personal exploration, oddly emotional, confessional, dark/light hybrids, abstract art, quirks, contemporary horror alterations, kinky amalgamations, grotesque treats, and volatile hybrids.

Blood Pudding Press likes the number 3 (and 13) so…

Blood Pudding Press will consider poetry collections of 13-23 poems (less than 30 pages please). Some of the poems may be previously published, but the collection as a whole should not have been published elsewhere before.  We will delightfully consider individual chapbooks and collaborative chapbooks by 2 or 3 different writers.

If this piques your interest, here are the details of entering the Blood Pudding Press contest:

-Submissions will be accepted from November 20, 2014 through December 20, 2014.

- At least three finalists and two winners will be chosen.  Each of the two winners will have their chapbooks published and will receive thirteen free copies of their chapbook.

-There is a $5.00 entry fee per manuscript for entering this contest; this entry fee money will be used to purchase supplies for publishing and designing the winning chapbooks. The fee is payable to the editor’s Paypal account at Julietcoo@gmail.com (just log into Paypal, click on 'Send & Request' at the top of the page, click on 'Pay for goods or services' and then enter the email address of Julietcoo@gmail.com and the amount of $5.00).  Although Paypal is the preferred form of payment, if you do not have a Paypal account and/or would rather pay by check, you may contact the editor via that email address.

-After paying your entry fee, please email your collection of poems to Julietcoo@gmail.comPlease write BPP Chapbook Contest – (your name) in the subject line.  Include your manuscript title, your name, your contact info, and a brief bio in the body of your email.  Attach the manuscript itself as a Microsoft Word Doc or Docx.

-The winners will be announced sometime in January 2015.  The first winning chapbook will most likely be published in early March.  The second winning chapbook will most likely be published in late May or early June.

For more information about Blood Pudding Press’s sensibilities and design style, you can peruse the Blood Pudding Press online shop at http://www.etsy.com/shop/BloodPuddingPress and please consider purchasing a chapbook or two or three.

Blood Pudding Press Poetry Chapbook Contest Results! – Three Semi-Finalists and Two Winners Announced!

This was a tough, challenging choice for Blood Pudding Press to make, as the contest entries were filled with so many interesting, well-written, diverse offerings, brimming with oodles of their own unique talent and flare.

Ultimately, the two chosen to be published by Blood Pudding Press were the two I decided were the best fit for my press, content-wise and stylistically and emotionally.

They offer utterly unique, emotionally raw, gut wrenching, powerful pussy-centric poetry that doesn’t fit into the mainstream – that doesn’t come across as academic OR as ‘outsider writer’; that comes across as its own oozing entity.

The three semi-finalists -

1.  Paula Cary – Sister, Blood and Bone

2.  Allie Marini Batts – Wake Up, Breathe, Keep Breathing

3. Paul David Adkins– Pharmacology

The TWO WINNERS, who will have their chapbooks published by Blood Pudding Press -

- Lisa M. Cole - Renegade//Heart

- Lora Bloom - Poking through The Fabric of the Light that Formed Us: Songs and Stories to Read in the Mirror

Big congratulations to those two winners, whose chapbooks are unique and powerful and amazing and Blood Pudding Press is honored to be publishing them soon.

More details will be announced when the winning chapbooks are formatted and created and brought to life!

"a visceral fusion of creatures who are hybrids of human and animal and machine"

Another poet recently linked to this short older article by Blood Pudding Press editor Juliet Cook, called ‘Five Highly Recommended Living Poets’ – which prompted her to re-read the article to find out if she still felt strongly about those poets – and she did.  Thus the article is linked to below, as well as a quote from the beginning of the article AND small snippets from the sections related to each of the five poets.

“the land of poetry happens to be a very multifaceted, highly-powerful, super-charged, vibrant, and dynamic realm abuzz with many colonies of exciting poets who are alive and writing today and who are very much relevant to current lives and the current zeitgeist”

“~Rebecca Loudon: Idiosyncratic and throbbingly visceral, Loudon mines loaded terrains of mental illness, longing, sex and other insatiable desires”

“~Lara Glenum: … I found myself thinking of it as 'post-apocalyptic porno poetry' and then I thought that it wasn't just post-apocalyptic, it was also post-porno-and kind of post-gender-and maybe even post-HUMAN”

“~Kristy Bowen: Evocative in its own unique way and flirting with themes related to femininity, the paranormal, the historical, and peculiar memory banks”

“~Tess Gallagher: For slightly more traditional tastes, Gallagher is a poet who has been publishing poignant, naturally descriptive, powerfully emotional, and non-didactic political poetry for years, some of it drawing upon her own life experiences including her childhood, her world travels, her loving relationship with fellow poet Raymond Carver and painful loss of him to an untimely death”

“~Lynn Crosbie: …obsessively and lushly fixated upon the seamier side of popular culture, the more dysfunctional side of romantic relationships, and other dark underbellies”

In other, more recent poetry-related news, TOMORROW OCTOBER 15 IS THE LAST DAY TO SUBMIT YOUR POETRY CHAPBOOK TO THE BLOOD PUDDING PRESS CONTEST (more details here - http://bloodyooze.blogspot.com/2012/09/blood-pudding-press-is-accepting.html).  Submissions will be accepted up through midnight the night of October 15!

Speaking of Blood Pudding Press, it’s not too late to investigate the Halloween Treats section of the Blood Pudding Press etsy shop here - http://www.etsy.com/shop/BloodPuddingPress?section_id=12101200

(The bloody mummy zombie mug below recently sold out, BUT a new one was painted last night and just needs to be glazed & fired before added to the BPP shop within about a week, just in time for Halloween.  Boo hiss.)
