New Reviews of Two 2104 Blood Pudding Press chapbooks (thank you to Lisa M. Cole)

"The best books raise questions in us, which Stick-Up definitely did for me. This chapbook is one of the most creative I have read so far this year...I see an entire novel in this tiny chapbook; it was that engrossing for me."

from Lisa M.Cole's review of Stick Up by Paul David Adkins (Blood Pudding Press, 2014)

"There are some beautiful lines in this book that will stay with me for a long time. The poem Our Lady of Napalm, which is dedicated to Anne Sexton, especially stood out to me, not only because Sexton is one of my favorite poets, but because the lines here are so crystal clear, sharp, and evocative of so much emotion"

from Lisa M. Cole's review of They Talk About Death by Alessandra Bava (Blood Pudding Press, 2014)

NEW Review of Sister, Blood and Bone by Paula Cary (a 2013 Blood Pudding Press poetry chapbook, reviewed by Lisa Cole)

Another new book review written by Lisa Cole about the newest 2013 Blood Pudding Press poetry chapbook, “Sister, Blood and Bone” by Paula Cary!

Here’s a piece of the review - a tribute to a sister, a trip backward in time to a childhood of pinky swears, playgrounds, and childhood games. The sisters partake in a lifelong dialog with nature, examining turtle bones, eggshells and pig meat, or watching as “the minnow’s dance cupped/its body silver shimmering/In the dusk of summer evening.

NEW Review of Poking Through...by Lora Bloom (a 2013 Blood Pudding Press poetry chapbook, reviewed by Lisa Cole)

A new book review written by Lisa Cole about the 2013 Blood Pudding Press poetry chapbook, "Poking through the Fabric of the Light that Formed Us: Songs and Stories to Read in the Mirror" by Lora Bloom!

Here's the first paragraph - Lora Bloom’s new chapbook from Blood Pudding Press, Poking Through the Fabric of Light That Formed Us: Songs and Stories to Read in the Mirror is not for the faint of heart, or the faint of stomach. This is a place where undigested noodles, burps, projectile nausea, and chunks of eyelids are deemed normal, and things most often deemed beautiful are viewed in a new, less favorable, often ghastly light. This collection is filled with things grotesque and horrific but still captivating. In the poem “Remember,” for example, the sun “heaved its dry spew” and “bloodied itself on the earth’s rocky crags’ and in “Pizza Maker,” moons are “battered” “bloody” and “slaughtered.”

Blood Pudding Press Poetry Chapbook Contest Results! – Three Semi-Finalists and Two Winners Announced!

This was a tough, challenging choice for Blood Pudding Press to make, as the contest entries were filled with so many interesting, well-written, diverse offerings, brimming with oodles of their own unique talent and flare.

Ultimately, the two chosen to be published by Blood Pudding Press were the two I decided were the best fit for my press, content-wise and stylistically and emotionally.

They offer utterly unique, emotionally raw, gut wrenching, powerful pussy-centric poetry that doesn’t fit into the mainstream – that doesn’t come across as academic OR as ‘outsider writer’; that comes across as its own oozing entity.

The three semi-finalists -

1.  Paula Cary – Sister, Blood and Bone

2.  Allie Marini Batts – Wake Up, Breathe, Keep Breathing

3. Paul David Adkins– Pharmacology

Thirteen Myna Birds got new wings (and is craving even newer wings soon)...

"the broken chandelier as it swings like a marionette – silver glint of fear - face and nose twitching - rainbow flakes - a yellow eye - boring a hole through platforms of sorrow - bustle and sweep of wings spoiling the hush"

The latest Thirteen Myna Birds has now gone live - with NEW darkly delicious poetic offerings from Walter Conley and Daniel G. Snethen – OLDER poem pieces still remaining from Lora Bloom– plus NEW AND OLD poetry morsels by Lisa M. Cole and Alex S. Johnson.

Here is a link to the latest Myna Birds flock:

(There is also a small change to the Thirteen Myna Birds submission guidelines going forward. Chances are pretty decent that if I liked/published your poetry once, I might very well like and be interested in publishing more of it in the future - BUT with that said, I don't really want to publish the same people every month - I desire NEW amalgamations - SO if someone has sent me a submission and received a rejection OR an acceptance, please wait three months or more before submitting to me again.  Tell some of your poetry loving friends to read the current offering and consider submitting for the next!)
