I can't even be in charge of my own body,
so what makes me think I can save anyone else.
He says I smell like pepper, but that doesn't mean I am
strong enough to fight back.

The pepper works itself into my eyes and blinds me,
but even if I am temporarily numbed,
I will never be like him, I will never tear others apart
for no reason other than brutal force.

All he wants to do is destroy
in order to feel like his body is stronger.

in the poem "Pepper" which appears in this chapbook.

Another NEW (Mini) Review of Juliet Cook's Newest Poetry Chapbook, "Your Mouth Is Moving Backwards"

"This is art of the bizarre and the horrific, and yet it’s strangely beautiful in its vulnerability."

Thank you very much to James Lawson Moore for his mini-review (and photo) of my newest poetry chapbook, "Your Mouth Is Moving Backwards" (published by Ethel Zine & Micro-Press in December 2023).

Read his whole review below and consider getting a copy of this chapbook for yourself (or for a poetry loving friend) from one of the links below.

From the Ethel shop - https://www.ethelzine.com/shop/your-mouth-is-moving-backwards-by-juliet-cook

From the author's own Blood Pudding Press shop - https://www.etsy.com/listing/1653667391/new-your-mouth-is-moving-backwards-a-new

"Juliet’s new chapbook is a limited run, handmade release, out by Ethel Zine & Micro Press. The poems therein are as much influenced by Twin Peaks as they are by the poet’s own inner turmoil. This is art of the bizarre and the horrific, and yet it’s strangely beautiful in its vulnerability. This is a book that cannot be missed.

Juliet Cook is JLM approved, with a bottle of Coke."

A NEW Book Essay Review of Juliet Cook's latest poetry chapbook, "Your Mouth Is Moving Backwards" - Violence of Craft: Your Mouth is Moving Backwards by Juliet Cook Reviewed by Mike Bagwell at Philly Poetry Chapbook Review

A phenomenal, intense, in depth, detailed, and wonderful new Book Essay Review by Mike Bagwell at Philly Poetry Chapbook Review of Juliet Cook's newest poetry chapbook, "Your Mouth Is Moving Backwards" (Ethel Zine & Micro-Press)!

Here's one small piece of the review. You can read more via the link below that.

And then below that are links to where you can acquire the chapbook.

"The cover’s disembodied mouth and layers of facial abstraction stared up at me from a blood-red page as if ready to cry out. And as I read, food and candle wax inhabited the pages as readily as the poet’s words. The book became my own, just as its violence became my own. Every aspect of this book reflects its subject. Your Mouth is Moving Backwards is a thorough and fun examination of the grotesque made exquisite by its handbound form."

"He thinks he can make it up to you
by suddenly replacing you

with an eyeless, mouthless mannequin,
silently positioned against your closed garage door
like an unasked for reminder or a secret test.

She thinks she can make it up to you
by telling you to rip off its head
and immediately toss it in the garbage can.

As if all of this is easy
as long as you don't speak for yourself."

in the poem "
Some People Want to Remove Your Eyes"

A few more lines from (and a few more photos of) Juliet Cook's new poetry chapbook, "Your Mouth Is Moving Backwards"...

"She doesn't see what she doesn't want to see. Part of me
can pretend I don't see it either. Another glass
figurine stained with blood, but we keep on pretending
it's red paint, at least until it dries. The color quietly darkens,
then starts cracking into broken pieces. But I didn't throw it
directly at anyone's face."

in the poem "Glass Figurines Stained With Blood", in Cook's new poetry chapbook, "Your Mouth Is Moving Backwards" (published by Ethel Zine & Micro Press, December 2023).

Happy (or hideous) December! Juliet Cook's new poetry chapbook, "Your Mouth Is Moving Backwards" is looking for new homes!

Happy December 2023! Juliet Cook is extremely excited, delighted, and thrilled to have her new poetry chapbook, "Your Mouth is Moving Backwards" officially available from the wonderful independent press, Ethel Zine & Micro Press!

"The doll with the stick figure heart
written on her torn shirt
and then erased.

The doll whose broken head begs for sanctuary
as she lives inside the garbage can, un-bagged,
praying she won't get completely thrown away.

Some of them were thrown down the stairs by others.
Some of them threw themselves down.
Some of them were shaken and dragged

by the mouths of dogs, smell like filthy
dried out saliva mixed with blood stains.
The dolls with eyes that will never be put back together."

in the poem "Some of the Dolls are Trapped in the Basement"

28 poems are waiting to creepily crawl their way into your brain or be given as a gift to a friend.

Happy first day of December! "Your Mouth is Moving Backwards" (Juliet Cook's new poetry chapbook) is now available!

"In this diorama, Bob is cut into pieces,
repositions itself inside different damaged brains.

While bobbing for apples, she screams
at what lies underneath the core.
Her flickering power lines will bleed into the void.

Some will see the red apples as ball gags inside her mouth.
Some will see the red apples as representations of Hell.
Some will say Hell does not exist."

(in the poem "Invaded Cores")

Happy first day of December 2023! I am extremely excited, delighted, and thrilled to have my new poetry chapbook, "Your Mouth is Moving Backwards" officially available from the wonderful independent press, Ethel Zine & Micro Press, as of today!

Just in time for the holidays and the New Year, at least for those of you who have peculiarly quirky gift lists involving strange, dark, emotionally twisted poetry.

The 28 poems in this collection are filled with internal and external violence and abuse, chaotic horror and entrapment, humans trapped behind walls or in beds, dolls thrown down the stairs and hiding in partially contained places, dolls pretending to be humans, humans pretending to be dolls, humans fused together with evil.

Some of the inspiration for some of the poems partly derived from Twin Peaks. 15 poems in the collection have the title "FLESH WORLD", which comes from the name of a magazine in Twin Peaks. But there are other titles too and other inspirations and insinuations too, including Cook's own real life experiences, thoughts, and feelings doused into dark red poetry.

FLESH WORLD

The only place to hide is a trap
door loaded with rotting baby toes
and constrained screams
shoved inside a dollhouse
sized train that can't move.

A NEW Review of Juliet Cook's new poetry chapbook - The Rabbits With Red Eyes!

"A beautifully crafted and meticulously stitched little book that speaks volumes on its bright white pages. Poetry vociferous in honesty and violent in imagery leaves typed tracks across a heart of blemishes while shrinking into its own stew of consciousness. Here is emoting to the fourth degree, crispy and well singed, tempestuously supple on the inside."
A delightful new review of Juliet Cook's new poetry chapbook, "The Rabbits With Red Eyes" (published by Ethel Zine & Micro-Press). Thank you very much to Janie C.

Step Inside Juliet Cook's New Poetry Chapbook - The Rabbits With Red Eyes

"When will you belong to yourself?
For years, you have hidden the blood
against your own scalp,
but then he tells you to cut off your hair.
He thinks the choice is his.

Blood orange drips down
your throat until you gag
in these dream scenes that turn you
into another unworthy nightmare
body culminating in nothing
but scissors and long hair
and extreme power outage."
