NEW! The First Thirteen Myna Birds Flock of 2026 is HERE...

Yes it has been a while, but in this month of March 2026, a new Thirteen Myna Birds flock has finally arrived, the first of this year 2026!

Starting with thirteen new poems by Jason Ryberg, Donna Pucciani, Mark J. Mitchell, Joshua Walker, SJ Harrold, and Maceo Nightingale.

All HERE - http://13myna.blogspot.com/

***

"Too much reality hurt and cold facts couldn’t be climbed - Her branch has vanished - keys dangled from a skinny wrist - voices bleed downstage - in darkening offices and bedrooms all over America - guilt that moves because it must - a document now shredded - sending what’s left of their leaves to scatter in every direction - clues that get missed, like dull sets that fly to darkness - the goddamn cynics and nihilists - Red eyed rats coughed out tracking devices - Life begins as a wriggly maggot - worms slithered out a bleeding heart - The years rot slow in mason jars - sudden tragedy, or the inexplicable prospect of non-being"

A lot more submissions remain in the Myna Birds inbox to read and consider and respond to in phases and the tentative plan is to add MORE creative work to this Myna Birds flock at different intervals in March and April, so please do stay tuned, if so inclined.

But for now, these are your starting thirteen, which will stay up at least throughout March and April (probably even longer) with more poems and/or art added to the mix from time to time...

NEW! Juliet Cook's poem “Residual Fitting Room Inside Which Nothing Fits” has managed to fit its way into MasticadoresUsa!

"Sometimes talking with others
causes you to feel fake and so
you bite your own tongue,

drain it onto your own paper,
no matter how splattered
and intricately cluttered

this room becomes. These lines
might not even fit anymore
tomorrow."

in Juliet Cook's poem “Residual Fitting Room Inside Which Nothing Fits”, newly appearing in MasticadoresUsa

"He thinks he can make it up to you
by suddenly replacing you

with an eyeless, mouthless mannequin,
silently positioned against your closed garage door
like an unasked for reminder or a secret test.

She thinks she can make it up to you
by telling you to rip off its head
and immediately toss it in the garbage can.

As if all of this is easy
as long as you don't speak for yourself."

in the poem "
Some People Want to Remove Your Eyes"

"bloodless, your mouth indefinitely, infinitely opening,
opening to commune with the dead, flood erasing you,

empty memory, willing, pliant, a body waiting
to say something, anything."

(from the poem "When We Die, There Will Be No Words, Just the Earth Between Our Teeth")

New Review of They Talk About Death!

"Alessandra Bava's They Talk About Death, the Italian poet and translator's American publishing debut, is a visually stunning piece of art. The book is handmade, ribbon-bound, and is crafted with brightly colored and textured paper. Erin Wells' cover art, "Yellow Carousel Horse," marches lockstep with the content of the collection, resembling, in skull form, a mash-up of Sylvia Plath's portrait and the horse her greatest work is named for, Ariel."

and

"They Talk About Death serves at once as a historical map to famous lives and deaths (Bava recalls the birth of Breton's Exquisite Corpse game and Sylvia Plath's last actions for her children) and as an extrapolation that dreams up a new backstory to each of these deaths."

A few samples from Sandra Marchetti's New Review of "They Talk About Death" by Alessandra Bava (Blood Pudding Press, 2014).

Read the review in its entirety within the New Menacing Hedge (and while there, read more of the new Menacing Hedge innards too) here - http://www.menacinghedge.com/fall2014/review-marchetti.php

Then consider purchasing Bava's chapbook from the Blood Pudding Press shop here - https://www.etsy.com/listing/195585261/halloween-they-talk-about-death-by?ref=shop_home_feat_2
